i am not making any resolutions.
but i am
making a list of hopes.
i hope my friends and family have really, really, good things happen to them.
i hope the war will end.
i hope we will find the right person to lead this country.
i hope my business will explode. in a good way.
i hope i will be able to travel to the ocean, to the mountains, to the desert,
and to the jungle.
i hope to contribute in small and big ways to the healing and
growth of others.
i hope the hard times will be kept to an extreme minimum.
and the lighter side of hopes include......
i hope i will learn to ride a dirt bike.
i hope i will learn to be a better skeet shooter.
i hope my skirts will find more room around the waist.
i hope i get to see my college friends missy and krissy.
i hope i get to visit with the california chicas.
i hope to take a ton of road trips to small little towns in big open places.
i hope to continue to hear from all of you....

falling ....

ken finds his girl, (gift from Boho) canon 20d
"Some day the wind will change
and you will see me clearly
One day these dreams of mine will bring me to my time
Some day i will become what i am meant to be coming to
One day but that's a million some days from today
Lately the sunshine makes a different shape around
Lately my music has a different sound to show me
Lately i ask questions of the world but no one is listening
Tell me when i go to sleep what will the morning bring me?
Falling,
falling,
falling,
or am i flying?
Flying,
flying,
flying,
or am i falling?"

diamonds on the souls of her shoes....

sparkly gifts, canon 20 d
i spent the past few days in sunny florida,
surrounded by the love of my mom and her
dear friends. christmas night we celebrated by
watching the sun sink into the gulf...we laughed,
we danced, we dined... it was delightful...
for no reason and a hundred different reasons,
i have always dreaded this time of year.
this was the first time in a long time i felt
genuinely happy.
today i am back home, the snow if falling,
and my cats are curled up beside me.
my heart is full...

hodge podge. . . .

random, canon 20 d
if both my cats are asleep on my body
i will not move, even if i am really uncomfortable.
i dont think anyone knows that i often listen to
really heavy metal. i sneak it, like it's a bad thing.
my friend and i have been going to pilates twice
a week, and im not sure if its the workout or how
hard we laugh at ourselves, but we think we just
might have stomach muscles developing.
my latest shoe purchase have heels that are
four inches high. that makes me 6 feet tall and
a tad intimidating. or so id like to think.
(shoe entry for you charley...)
for some reason, i remembered today how
i hated getting on the bus after school. there were
so many busses, and i used to panic trying to find the
right one ~ like i would die if i got on the wrong one.
the icicles are extra plentiful this winter and we
have one that is at least 6 feet long ~ which is as
long as me wearing my new shoes. hmm.
and lastly,
i prefer these
over American Girl Dolls.

what they say. . .

barga, italy ~ canon 20d
it's fate.
it's god's will.
it's meant to be.
it's karma.
it's luck.
it's a curse.
it's the law of attraction.
it's magic.
it's destiny.
it's your fault.
it's their fault.
it's payback.
it's to teach a lesson.
it's manifestation.
it's the power of positive thinking.
it's bad energy.
it's part of the plan.
it's a blessing in disguise.
it's natural.
it's life.

in your head. . . . .

echos, canon 20d
because you hear:
"you cant do it.
you're not that good.
you dont have it.
besides, you're ugly.
dont even bother, you'll blow it.
there's just no way.
besides, you're crazy.
no one takes you seriously.
you are average.
you are dumb.
besides, others are so much better than you. "
and I say :
"why not?
you ARE beautiful and capable and brilliant and crazy creative .
your heart is a piece of art.
you have a way of looking at life like no other.
you see things other people miss.
you have more magic than you have even come close to tapping into.
i believe in you. i really do.
and i know how amazing you are.
everyone you meet adores you.
you light up the world just by walking around.
you have strength and wisdom and courage ~ which pretty much makes you a
natural wonder woman.
your loving kindness is by far the most impressive gift a person can have."
we may not have a choice on the tapes that have been implanted into our heads
from the past, but we do have a choice at which ones we will choose to play again and again.
today i challenge you to press STOP on that old shitty cassette and give a spin to the new cd of the voices of those who love you.

hard. . . . . .

came with morning coffee, canon 20d
i havent forgotten how for some the holidays
can be especially tough. sometimes they are still hard for me.
go through a divorce, a death, a bad diagnosis,
infertility, financial stress ~ and well, this time of year
can be brutal.
sometimes, just the stress of being around family
is enough to rattle the cage.
so today i just want to offer my prayer and my thoughts
to all of you who are having a rough go at it this year.
do what you need to do to take care of yourself. be gentle.
dont over do it. set boundaries. try to surround
yourself with people who love you. its okay to say no and its
okay to be honest. try not to isolate though. do something
different.
and know that the build up to the holidays is usually much
tougher than the day itself.
*lets be sure to remember those who are struggling right now.. . .
just a little extension of kindness and sensitivity can go a long way...

you are my soul throw it all out the window
you are my training wheel you are my chamomile
you are my friend come again some other day...
you are my pantomime and you are my moonshine
you are my sunshine you are my shooting star
you are my elbow you are my buttercup
spoonful of puppycat bellyful of kittypup
pretty pretty baby tin toy maybe

brrr.

dog park, canon 20d
winter can make a girl kind of crazy.
especially if you're a girl who prefers to be barefoot.
so in order to remain somewhat sane, us winter victims
must have plenty of winter projects to keep busy.
my first one is to transform the upstairs kitchen into a coffee/tea room.
since we do like coffee houses but often get bothered by the wrong music
playing, the lack of cleanliness, and loud talkers ~ we figured we would
create our own.
the space will be full of antiques, books, our old album collection,
and the cheesy board games we still love to play.
and of course, i will have an
ample supply of:
music like this
perfect lighting with pretty glows,
the very best chocolate,
the perfect frother,
yerba mate with bombillas and gourds...
and a soft, shag carpet so i can be barefoot.

gifting. . . .

bucktown, canon 20 d
i was raised by two very generous parents.
in addition to having incredible examples of kindness,
my parents also taught us how important an attitude
of gratefulness is. thank god for that.
perhaps what i love best, is the
thoughtfulness behind a gift, taking the time
to know a person's heart and trying to find a
piece that matches it.
i wanted to share with you a few of my favorite things i have
received over the years in case you need a few more ideas.
* a love letter written on a piece of driftwood
* my favorite childhood toy tracked down on ebay
* one winter when i was sick, my mom had a cleaning service
come and help me clean. wow!
* a book of beautiful quotes and lyrics written in a hand bound book.
* an ink pen, yummy paper, and stamps.
* a cd made for me with the theme songs of my favorite movies.
* my favorite childhood book found in a used bookstore
* my own fishing pole and tackle box.
* a hand written letter inside a vintage christmas card.
* a snowman made for me in my front yard with the perfect cozy scarf and hat
for me to keep.
I would love to hear some of your favorite things as well., Please note that my comments section isnt working but you can always e-mail me at Jen@jengray.com.
Peace.

off to the city for the evening ~

consider staying home, and letting the computer stand in line

i never sleep through the night.
and while i have a number of things i try to do
to fall back asleep, listening to one of these three
songs on repeat almost always does the trick.
***John Brion ~ Spotless Mind. (from the soundtrack Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)
***Peter Kater & Carlos Nakai ~ East (from the album Natives)
***Mark Isham ~ Anne Frank (from the soundtrack Freedom Writers)
what are the songs that soothe your soul?
