the wonder years, 1978
we had camp outs in our backyards,
burned leaves on the edge of the street,
made forts by the creek,
grooved paths through the woods,
built jumps for our bikes...
we set free the toads trapped in window wells,
built tree houses with trap doors,
played ding dong ditch,
and kick the can,
and hoops,
and running bases...
we made chalk houses on the driveways,
tried digging to china,
and climbed ever tree that would hold our weight.
there were
no cell phones.
no computers.
no ipods.
no x-box.
no fashion demands. (uh, clearly)
no reason to stay indoors.
no texting.
no ridiculous schedules for sports and cheerleading and competitions.
no HBO, no DVD players in the car, no large screen tv's....
....and i do not remember ever being bored.
