the camera made me do it...

It was the camera who whispered, "go take a look," as I drove by the abandoned farmhouse. Before I knew it, I was inside creeping around,
looking for stories and images to collect on film.
The house still had a few details from its past... red curtains, a blue cup, a rusty fan.
I admit, it was a bit scary....but in a scary-fun way.
Fun, that is, until the heel of my fancy boots caught a loose board and I fell flat, skinning my hands.
Fun until I saw the dead animal a few inches from my face.
Fun until I saw the policeman standing in the doorway.
"Yes, I know I am trespassing."
"Yes, I know it is not safe for a young girl to be tromping around
here all alone." (and thank-you for calling me young)
"No, I do not normally hike in high-heeled boots."
"Yes, I promise to leave and never trespass again."
(unless my camera tells me to)
It's the camera that has made me aware of things I never would notice.
It's the camera that brings me to places I never would think to go to.
Its the camera that fires up my curiosity.
And sitting here now with bloody hands and muddy boots, I am still
smiling from the adventure.
